  • History of analog synthesis

    History of analog synthesis
    Ronnie Deelen
    14 listopada
    9:00-10:00
    Raciborska 50, LORI

Tematem wykładu będzie historia syntezy analogowej w kontekście zarówno technologicznym, jak i artystycznym.

    RONNIE DEELEN
Has a bachelor of design degree in Animation received at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. During these studies he developed an interest in character design, illustration and sound. His interest in technology moved him towards an avant-garde approach to express his ideas and designs. Graduated cum laude for his MA degree in Graphic Arts at the Art Academy of Katowice with a multimedia performance. Ronnie is a versatile artist who works with Image and Sound has a lifelong passion for technology and drawing. Works as a solo illustrator and animator focussing on weird character design continuously looking for new imaginative species. In his first solo project all skills come together with a multimedia performance that contained a self-build instrument, animation and 8-bit music. As co-founder of RGBoy, he explored musical potential of 8-bit club convention music. However, in the Teleport Katowice project, which he was also a co-founder, he focused his interest in synthesis on old analog synthesizers, tape delays and modular synthesizers, which formed the basis for experiments with electronic music. As Ronnie Deelen, he creates soundscapes and rhythmic experiments using a modular synthesizer.

Currently a Tutor at the Royal College of Art in Information Experience Design where is the personal tutor of the Sound Design pathway. Runs workshops focussing modular synthesis, electronics, sound design, audiovisual interaction and physical computing. Organises a monthly event showcasing sound experiments by students and himself. Guides second year students conceptually towards their MA degrees.

  • Redesigning open public spaces – why bottom-up approaches matter in the case of Ljubljana, Slovenia

Redesigning open public spaces – why bottom-up approaches matter in the case of Ljubljana, Slovenia
    Matej Nikšič
    13 listopada
    13:00
    Raciborska 50, Kino Rhino

The presentation starts with the overview of the strategic urban planning documents guiding the development of the urban public space in Ljubljana, and then presents the action plan for the improvement of public spaces in Ljubljana which has been ongoing for the last ten years and earned Ljubljana the title of the Green Capital of Europe in 2016. Successes and failures will be critically examined and the issue of (un)just investment strategies discussed within the broader framework of the post-socialist neo-liberal city. The presenter will argue that despite the flourishing public spaces in the city centre, Ljubljana has a long way to go to provide high quality public spaces to its citizens as the majority of work to be done awaits in its suburban areas. The need for a development of a bottom-up approaches will be highligted if the public spaces in the suburban neighbourhoods are to be inclusive and meet the desires and inspirations of local inhabitants.

Matej Nikšič is an architect and urban designer affiliated with the  Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia. His research work focuses on public spaces, urban regeneration, urban justice and participatory urban design. He is part of a teaching stuff at Faculty of architecture in Ljubljana and leads Slovenian part of www.humancities.eu.

I started the design agency Information Design Unit in 1988 and sold it to the global marketing and design group WPP in 2001. I have worked in many sectors, including financial services, government, telecommunications, energy, and wayfinding. My clients have included Shell, Vodafone, Barclays Bank, Airbus and the UK government.

    Research interests
I studied graphic communication at the University of Reading, and later returned there as Professor of Information Design. I have a doctorate for work on multimodal genres and the relationship between typography and language, and I am currently working in the field of legal information design.

  • Design Fiction and (More than) Human Centered Design

Design Fiction and (More than) Human Centered Design
    Iohanna Nicenboim
    16 listopada
    13:00
    Raciborska 50, Kino Rhino

Iohanna zaprezentuje swoje najważniejsze prace z zakresu dizajnu krytycznego z ostatnich lat i objaśni metody projektowania, których używa do omawiania wartości etycznych przyszłych technologii. Podczas wykładu przyjrzymy się różnym praktykom projektowym stosowanym w projektowaniu interakcji i wizualizowania przyszłości m. in: design fiction, design spekulatywny i etnografia projektowa.

Iohanna Nicenboim is a design researcher at the Connected Everyday Lab (TU Delft). She focuses on connected objects as part of complex socio-technical systems in everyday futures. Following a Research through Design process, and using unconventional methods, she investigates interactions in the area of IoT, AI, Machine Learning, and Social Sciences. Nicenboim’s design practice often shows a provocative approach towards the Internet of Things, using techniques from Speculative Design and Design Fiction. She received the Internet of Things Award for the Best Design Fiction project in 2015-16, and the Thingscon IoT fellowship in 2017. She participated in residency programs, gave talks and exhibited her work in different international exhibitions and conferences, like CHI, DIS, FutureEverything, Transmediale, Milan Design Week and Dutch Design Week.
